IN LOVING MEMORY OF MY DADDY - 2/16/48 - 5/11/2008
This has been the most difficult week of my life. My father passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, Mother’s Day. I had just been with him a few hours earlier and he was his normal upbeat, energetic self, joking around with my kids and me. Around 6:45 PM, he was up on a ladder in his back yard working on a roof for a deck that he was building. My mom went out to check on him around 7PM and he was on the ground, face down, laying on his head and shoulder and his face was purple. There were boards lying on top of him. Apparently, he had fallen off the ladder while he was working. He wasn’t breathing and had no pulse. When I got there the paramedics were working on him and trying to revive him. I begged and begged my father to come back to us, up to the very last second that they loaded him in the ambulance. They continued to try to revive him at the hospital to no avail. I was in the room with him holding his hand and weeping over him when the doctors finally gave up and called the time of death. At first we thought that he died as a result of the fall. However, the doctors, nurses, and medical examiner believe that he had a heart attack and then fell off the ladder. He was still so young and had so many more years to live. My entire family is in a state of shock and absolute grief. No one could have ever expected this. My father was such a strong man and took care of everyone. He was the one that everyone depended on. In fact, he was just at my house on Saturday, putting in a new air conditioning unit for us and fixing our oven. He did everything for us. He even built our house and was the reason that I now have my dream home. He was a custom homebuilder and remodeler as his career. I can’t imagine life without him. I’ve always had him, of course, and was very close to him. I still called him “Daddy”. I’ve never experienced such grief, sorrow, shock, and sense of loss in my life. I just don’t know how I’m going to get through this and live a normal life. Normal has always included my Dad and I took that for granted. He was always there for me on a moment’s notice and he supported me in every single thing that I did, even if he couldn’t relate to it. He showed his love and pride in his children and grandchildren in everything he did. My Mom and Dad have been together since she was 16 and he was 17. They were married for almost 41 years. I don’t know how my mom is going to survive after this. In addition, she is still raising my little brother who is in high school. My brother is way too young to have lost a father. My dad was a father of four and grandfather of seven. Also, my poor grandmother, my dad’s mom, is going through so much. My dad was her baby and she is devastated. My father was the definition of a good and noble man. He always put others’ needs before his own and spent his whole life helping, mentoring, and giving to others. He was also heroic and would put his life on the line for others. One time he saved my mother and little sister from a burning truck that was about to explode, even though his legs were on fire. He suffered third degree burns and had to endure a long and painful recovery. I love my Dad so much. I miss him beyond words. He was a wonderful father and grandfather. I would give almost anything just to have one minute back with my father to hug him, kiss him, and let him know how much I love him and have always appreciated him. I wish I had told him more. I am just utterly devastated. We had one memorial service in Houston on Thursday for all the family that lives there, but we are having another memorial service in the DFW area this Thursday, May 22nd, at 7PM. I know many of you have met my dad over the years and at our Halloween parties the last two years, so if any of you that have met him or know him, want to attend the memorial, please contact me and I’ll give you the details. Below are a few photos of my dad over the years with more photos in the link below.

My Christmas Wish My Christmas Wish…..please give to the following charities: March of Dimes: My daughter, Faith, was born 3 ½ months premature and weighed only two pounds at birth. She fought for her life for three months to overcome the various life threatening conditions and disabilities that face extremely premature babies. Today she is a healthy normal girl. If not for the research of March of Dimes to help premature babies, she might not be here today. The Humane Society and other Animal Rescue Groups: I adopted my bloodhound, Copper, from the South Central Bloodhound Rescue and my Doberman/Bloodhound mix, Bela, from my local Humane Society. There are so many homeless pets that truly deserve a family of their own! ARC of Denton County, The Sterling Society, other ARC groups, other groups that help the mentally disabled, as well as research for autism and other disabilities: I have a young brother-in-law who is disabled and I worked as a therapist to autistic children, so these groups mean so much. St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and other Children’s hospitals: As a parent, I can only imagine what it would be like to have a severely ill child. PHOTOS FROM HAUNT X - LUGOSI, KARLOFF, CHANEY, SAVINI & MORE! Well, I wrapped up my appearance at the Haunt X Convention in LA last weekend (photos are posted below) and I had such a wonderful experience meeting, getting to know and hanging out with many of the celebrities, not just in the celebrity room, but at the dance and bar, as well. First of all, my table was right next to Bela Lugosi Jr., only child of Bela Lugosi (Dracula, horror icon). Wow, was that fun! My husband Kyle and I are huge, huge Bela Lugosi fans, so it was kind of surreal. Bela Jr. was so sweet and kind. We were able to talk a good deal, as we were right next to each other for seven hours each day on Sat. and Sunday. Plus Bela Jr. looks sooooo much like his father. You can't tell so much in the photos because he is smiling and how often did we see images or film of Bela Sr. smiling? But, wow, in person it is amazing. He has the same eyes, nose, mouth and cheeks. The only real difference is the grey hair and Bela Jr. has a slimmer face shape. However, his profile looks exactly like his father and it was impossible to look at him and not see the face of his father! Next to Bela, was Ron Chaney, grandson and great-grandson of Lon Chaney Jr. and Lon Chaney (the original Wolfman and Phantom of the Opera) and next to him was Sara Karloff, daughter of Boris Karloff (the original Frankenstein monster, Mummy, etc.). They were all so kind and wonderful. Ron Chaney talked alot to us about family things that we have in common (kids same age, their sports, etc.) and told us some great stories about his grandfather. Sara Karloff, who looks just like her father, as well.....just a female version, was all too sweet and very, very humble. Whenever I would say something to the affect of how it was an honor to talk with her, she would role her eyes and say, "Oh it is not, it is not!", like I was just being silly. Anyway, to wrap up the whole Lugosi, Karloff and Chaney story, it was like a dream come true for Kyle and I to hang out with these people because we are both such big classic horror fans. Not to mention, they treated us as colleagues, not fans, since I was a "celebrity" guest (I use the term "celebrity" loosely :) ), which was really nice. It was the coolest experience I have had to date as "RedVamp", other than being a guest of Duran Duran last year. We also got to meet Ben Chapmen and Julie Adams from the original "Creature from the Black Lagoon". They are both in their 80's and were very kind, as well. That, too, was a cool experience as classic horror fans. Other great people that we were able to meet and some we got to know a bit and hang out with (other than Bill Daily of "I Dream of Jeannie" that I posted about in the previous entry with a photo) included Reggie and GiGi Bannister (horror producer/actor, makeup artist - Phantasm, Wishmaster, Bubba Ho-tep, etc), Tom Savini (famous make-up artist, actor), Richard Brooker (original "Jason" - Friday the 13th), Carel Struycken (Lurch - new Addams Family), Michael Berryman (you know his famous face), Dr. Jimmy and Heather Lowery of APSR Radio, Miko Hughes (Pet Sematary, Apollo 13, etc.), Joe Pilato, Pedro Miguel Arce, and many more. People that were particularly helpful and great to be around were Reggie and GiGi Bannister and Dr. Jimmy and Heather. I also got to meet Eric Pigors (Toxic Toons) and Jeff Baham (Doombuggies.com), in addition to a host of wonderful people in the industry. Something of interest, I must have had 30 people or more in the horror industry tell me that I should be the next "Elvira" or go in that direction with my career. Not Elvira literally, but the job description. Hmmmm...... Bela Lugosi Jr.
Bela Lugosi Jr., Ron Chaney, Tom Savini (famous makeup artist), Sara Karloff & Reggie Bannister (horror producer -Wishmaster, Phantasm, Bubba HoTep, etc.) This is my favorite photo next to the one of me with Duran Duran and this was a press shot! Remember I Dream of Jeannie? Here is a photo of me with Bill Daily who played Capt. Roger Healey on "I Dream of Jeannie", among other roles. My husband and I met him at the Haunt X Convention, at which I was a guest in the celebrity room, this last weekend. I grew up watching Bill Daily, so it was great to meet him. He is such a hilarious guy and he kept me laughing like crazy. It was so fun to hang out with him a bit. He talked to us like he had known us forever and told us some great stories and jokes that we'll never forget. Although he is in his late seventies, he is also quite the "ladies man" and was constantly doting on me and pretending to hit on me.....not seriously, of course, but all in good fun. When I introduced myself and told him that I grew up watching him, the first thing he said was, "Well, you grew up quite nicely!". Ha! Ha! He went on and on about how women from Texas were the most beautiful women in the world. He said that when a plane arrives from Texas, the caliber of women goes up by 10! So, girls from Texas, you gotta love Bill. In referring to this, he also talked about the first time he met Farrah Fawcett. Anyway, meeting Bill Daily was a real treat for my husband and I both and he is seriously one of the funniest guys we have ever met. I'll be posting more pics from Haunt X of the other celebs we got to hang out with like Lugosi, Karloff, Chaney and many more! | | Wednesday, February 15th, 2006 | | 12:53 pm |

I'll be in the celebrity room right next to Bela Lugosi Jr.! Come by and meet me! I'll be happy to chat a bit, take photos, etc. Haunt X has a great lineup of celebrities and vendors. Some celebs that I am personally looking forward to meeting are Bela Lugosi Jr (son of original Dracula), Sara Karloff (daughter of Boris, original Frankenstein), Ron Chaney (Lon Chaney, Lon Chaney Jr. grandson/great grandson - Phantom of Opera, Wolfman), Bernard Fox (Dr. Bombay of Bewitched), Bill Daily (Maj. I understand that you can also ask me questions live through their chat room. In addition, check out some great new art that I am honored to be the model for. Tim Turner of The Ghoulish Gallery created a really creepy "haunted mansion style" changing portrait of me. You can see it on the first page of their website. He will have it available along with his other works at the Ghoulish Gallery booth at Haunt X and through the website. In addition, there is wonderful new "classic horror" RedVamp art by Vlad Quigley with themes such as Frankenstein, the Mummy, etc. You can see them at the top of my Vlad Quigley Art Page. I will have some great merchandise featuring this art at Haunt X and you can order through Vlad Quigley's store, as well.. Again, I would love to meet some of you at Haunt X, Feb. 18th and 19th!
